Coca-Cola

A long time ago
Eons and ages it seems ago
Thoughts and days and dreams ago
Summers and springs and leaves ago

I left out a bottle
A Coca-Cola bottle
With only a measly drop of Coca-Cola left
That refused to leave the Coca-Cola bottle

I left out that bottle
On the hot summer sidewalk
Where it sat lazily and fat
Drinking in the rays of sunlight

When the sun began to set
Later than it usually did
I brought in the Coca-Cola bottle
That still had a drop of Coca-Cola left

The bottle was full of sunshine
Of liquid gold and rich elixir
The muted melody of a symphony
And luxurious bronze air

As quickly as possible
To keep the sunshine inside
I screwed a lid on the Coca-Cola bottle
Screwed it as tight as I could

Today I sat watching the bottle
And listening to the melody from inside
I opened the bottle and realized
All the sunshine had left

It had leaked out
Through little holes invisible
To a human eye
And had drifted into the sky

All there was left
Was a measly drop of Coca-Cola
From ages and eons ago
That finally left the Coca-Cola bottle

It didn’t taste like Coca-Cola anymore
It tasted like sunshine
And summer and leaves and greenery
From ages and eons it seems ago

Dreams and ideas
Were in the scintillating drop
Of old Coca-Cola
That had stuck to the bottle

I went to the fridge
And pulled out a bottle of Coca-Cola
It’s summer again; and I sat outside
Drinking in coke and drinking in sunshine

When there was just a drop left of Coca-Cola
I left the bottle outside
On the bare sidewalk
As it drank in rays of sunshine

Golden rays of blissful sunshine
