WHAT: Poetry Slam

PLACE: White Branch Library
DETAILS: Do you write poetry or song lyrics? Are you looking for a place to perform your work? Join White Branch Library's Poetry Slam! Poems must be your own and should be under two (2) minutes long. Non-poets are invited to come show support and to offer encouragement. Judges will be randomly selected from the audience.

NOTES: To celebrate Teen Read Week, Betts Library will invite teens from local middle and high schools and adults to read their original or favorite poems. Ms. Tucker, who will lead the poetry program, is a retired teacher who loves poetry. Since 1984 she has conducted poetry programs at Southwest and Soule Libraries. Each year she also conducts several story times and poetry hours each day at the NY State Fair in the Dairy Products Building.

DETAILS: Lecture by James Longenbach, Joseph Henry Gilmore Professor of English at
Rochester University.
NOTES: Professor Longenbach is the author of several books of poems (Draft of a Letter, Fleet River, Threshold), and criticism (The Art of the Poetic Line, The Resistance to Poetry, Modern Poetry After Modernism, Wallace Stevens: The Plain Sense of Things, Stone Cottage: Pound, Yeats, and Modernism).
